A house and a home

Twenty-four years in one Victorian house, caring for the same kind of people.

Barchester Tower sits in St Leonards on Sea, a few streets back from the Channel. The house is full of Victorian charm and character, set in two-thirds of an acre of secluded gardens — a walled space planted for year-round interest, where residents spend long afternoons.

We have been providing residential care for more than twenty-four years. The home accommodates twenty residents: five shared rooms for couples, and twelve singles. Continuity is the quiet thing we are most proud of — staff who have known residents through years, and the small, steady rituals that make a house feel like home.

Our particular care is for older adults living with dementia and Alzheimer's. We aim to treat each resident as a very special and valued individual — to support the daily life they would have chosen, with the help they need offered as discreetly as possible.

Care at Barchester Tower

The care we've been quietly perfecting for over two decades.

Three threads run through everything we do — patient dementia care, a homely scale, and a welcome that extends to spouses and families.

  • Specialist dementia and Alzheimer's care

    Specialist dementia and Alzheimer's care

Twenty-four years of caring for older adults living with dementia and Alzheimer's — gently, patiently, in a real home.

Dementia and Alzheimer's care is what Barchester Tower has been built around for more than two decades. Our care is person-centred rather than clinical: a quiet routine that supports memory, familiar staff who learn what each resident enjoys, and an environment that gives independence and dignity without surrendering safety. Every resident has a care plan that is reviewed as their needs change, and we work closely with the GP, community nursing teams and, where appropriate, the local memory service.

  • Residential care for older adults

    Residential care for older adults

A small, homely residential home of twenty older adults — five shared rooms, twelve singles, and a 2/3-acre garden.

Barchester Tower offers residential care for up to twenty older adults in a Victorian house and grounds. Bedrooms are comfortable and personalised — residents are encouraged to bring favourite furniture, pictures, and the small things that make a room feel theirs. Care covers the everyday: medication, personal care, mealtimes, and the slow, patient business of keeping a home running well around the people who live in it.

  • Care for couples — staying together later in life

Five of our bedrooms are shared. Married couples are welcomed and supported, together, in one home.

We have always welcomed married couples to Barchester Tower. When one partner needs more support than the other, we work to keep them together — five of our bedrooms are designed for two — so that the routines, conversations and quiet companionship of a long life are not interrupted by care. Couples can stay together as one's needs increase, with care adjusted around each person individually.

Placeholder — to be replaced with real family quotes

Mum has been at Barchester Tower for two years now. We chose it because it felt like a real house rather than a facility, and that feeling has not changed.
